Personally I’m always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught.

Sir Winston Churchill

(This quote was grossly misquoted today by my accountant. The original isn’t quite as good.)

Bark bark bark bark!!!

Love with conditions is no longer love at all.

– Just sayin’
One of my Facebook friends shared this picture today. It made me laugh… but sadly, not for the reason it was initially posted.
1. “Working hard” does not insure success, and the individual achievement of success does not mean the person worked harder than anyone else. There are very many factors that determine a person’s financial and social achievements, including (but not limited to) luck, timing, sheer perseverance, and cheating or manipulating the system by which they are promoted.
2. Napping is not a sign of laziness, and using it as a “metaphor” in this picture or otherwise is nothing more than a cop-out. I have incredibly successful friends who take meditation naps in order to function better. Are they lazy? Fuck no! The opposite is true, in fact. They probably slept less last night and accomplished more than you did all day today!
I also have friends who are illegal citizens; they work up to 12 hours a day and have never asked for a handout. They could probably use a nap, and I would bet that the nap would improve their performance.
3. There is nothing wrong with giving people FREE health care and access to certain resources. Health in particular is NOT earned by virtue of achieving a certain political or financial status. Health is a RIGHT that everyone is entitled to just because they are born! Perhaps your self-righteous man-made religion also subscribes to Darwinism? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
4. Just because your story worked out a certain way does not mean that it should work that way for everyone. We all have our own battles and each are equally trying. There is also no existing time limit - literally or figuratively - by which a person should have resolved his or her story either. To use an old and appropriate adage, “You will never understand a person until you walk a mile in their shoes.” I might be really good at losing weight and maintaining successful relationships, and buddy CEO might be great at making money. But I’d bet my own money that he wants to be where I am, just as much as I want to be where he is.
Bottom line is money and power are not everything, and this new shift toward socialism is not in an effort to take away wealth from those who have truly earned it. I believe the contrary is true. I believe that the move toward socialism in this country is in a pure and honest effort to restore the natural human rights of health, justice, and opportunity to everyone, regardless of race, sexual association, gender, and status (aka: nepotism). You see, some of us never got a fair first chance, and we’d like our second to at least somewhat resemble “fair”.
The attitude that this picture displays is ridiculous, childish and all about “me” instead of “we”. We can’t experience success and unity as a nation if we exist and build under the principles this picture presents. Amen.

Claiming that someone else’s marriage is against your religion is like being angry at someone for eating a donut because you’re on a diet.

michellebranch:

“People are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you.

You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity.

Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head.

You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.”
